Change your site without a developer

by Hostingot · posted on 2026-10-04

Most work on a website is not development work. It is correcting a price, writing a paragraph or adding a page. That does not belong in a development cycle: it belongs in a cms, where somebody does it themselves.

What you do in the cms

  • Create a page with its own address, for example /p/voorwaarden
  • Write a title and a text per language: Dutch, English, German and French
  • Publish it, or deliberately do not: a page that is not finished stays a draft
  • Edit an existing page, with the option to return to the previous state

That last point is why there is a History. Every save records the previous state, and undoing is itself a step. So you never lose something you cannot get back.

Why four languages at once

A site that lives in four languages is not four times the work of a Dutch site. The difference is the translation, and that belongs with the text being written — not in a second list you have to maintain six months later. That is why the cms asks for all four languages on one screen.

If a language has not been filled in yet, the page says so honestly, above the title. You will never silently read the Dutch text at a French address: that would be an answer in the wrong language.

And no deploy

A change is on the site immediately. There is no commit, no ftp and no build somebody has to start. That is not only easier, it also means the person who knows can maintain the site — even when that person cannot program.

We think a website you can maintain yourself is worth more than a website that is perfect and has been still for two weeks.
